Hospice care begins when a person’s terminal illness no longer responds to routine, aggressive medical treatment. Care can take place in a private home, or it may occur in an assisted living center, a nursing home, a hospital or other long-term care facility.
• The patient may choose to live at home or with a close friend or family member.
• The patient may need the care found in a nursing home.
• The patient may need minimal assistance and choose an assisted living center.
